Focusing on the one

Happy February!
This week's lesson: focusing on the one.

We were watching the Face to Face event, where Elder and Sister Bednar answered questions, and there was one thing he said that stood out to me. A lot of times, when he as an apostle is assigned to go to a stake conference or travel anywhere, there is one particular person that he is able to help more than anyone else, almost like he was sent there for that person. Well this week we had a couple similar experiences.

We've been trying to branch out in our area and visit parts of it that we haven't visited before, and on Thursday night we went by train to a part of town called Las Rozas, for the last part of the day. We tried to find some people at home, but nobody answered, and there was almost no one on the street. We went back to the train station, and saw that the next train came in 20 minutes. There was a churro and chocolate stand right next to the train station, and you can guess what happened next. As we were waiting for the guy to make the churros, we were able to talk to him and he asked us what we do as missionaries, and what we teach.

Then, on Friday, we were in a different neighborhood in Villalba, also kind of far from where we usually go. The same thing happened; we tried to find some people at home but nobody was. There was exactly one woman who we saw on the street there, a lady named Paula from Colombia, who was walking home with her baby in her stroller. We went to ask her for directions, and she seemed really flustered and kind of nervous, I don't know why. But she did her best to help us find the street we were looking for, and as we were talking, she seemed to calm down. She recognized us as Mormons, and told us that she knew some missionaries in Colombia. She was in a hurry so she left quickly, but she thanked us as she left, and I'm not sure why. But, I felt like, in some way, we had helped her.

Couple other things from this week: the ward here is expecting a nice, new chapel in April, and we had a meeting on Sunday with the ward council to start planning the open house. It's going to be huge. They are planning on inviting a ton of people, along with putting announcements on the radio and in the newspaper. It's going to be legit.
Once again, they didn't celebrate Groundhog's day here. Not really surprising, but worth mentioning.
It snowed all over Madrid for the first time in forever. For Spain, it's pretty exciting.

Hope you all have a great week!
Love,
Elder Dobbs
