So it's been a week since I left Spain... not really, because the Canary Islands are technically Spanish but it feels super different. I'm on a group of islands off the coast of Morocco. It's weird to think about, but I love it. Even though I'll only be here for 6 weeks, I'm super happy to be here.
Telde has a small ward, but the members are great. It's a small city in a not-so-touristy part of the island of Gran Canaria but we're close(ish) to the coast and it's a lot of fun. The landscape is half desert, half coastline. So a lot of cacti and palm trees.
When I got here we had almost no investigators. We still don't have a ton but we're working a lot on finding. I replaced two missionaries who were close to going home and didn't have a lot of hope for the area so according to my current companion, Elder Nielsen (from the great state of Idaho), they didn't work a ton. But we're working hard to turn that around. We met with a couple of old investigators who hadn't met with the missionaries for a while, who were super nice. They were named Ignacio and Maria. Ignacio is about a foot taller than me, and twice my weight. There's a sport called lucha canaria that he used to do, it's some type of Canarian wrestling. And apparently you have to be huge to do it. Anyway, they're great people. They already know a ton about the church, and he loves the people in the branch and he says he feels good when he reads the Book of Mormon and when he's at church, he just hasn't ever received a sure answer that Joseph Smith is a prophet. We're excited to keep working with them.
I hope you all have a great week!
Love,
Elder Dobbs
