SMARTPHONES and a Baptism

Buenos dias, buenas tardes, and buenas noches,
A ton happened this week so here we go

Monday: We got up early to catch a train to Madrid. In the morning, we played basketball with a bunch of missionaries, and I'm still one of the worst players on the court. But I knew a lot of people there and had fun. Then for the second half of our p-day, we went up to Guadalajara to visit Jose Serna, who I got to know when I served there. He made us a small meal, and it was realy nice to see him and his brother Carlos, and to see Guadalajara again. He put some photos on Facebook, which some of you may have already seen.

Tuesday: We had our mission concilio (I think it's Mission Leadership Council in English) with all the zone leaders and sister training leaders at the mission home, where we got our smartphones and a lot of training on how to use facebook and whatsapp (the two main apps we're using to communicate with people) to their full potential. It's exciting to see how the Lord is trusting us with these tools. They're going to help a lot. Funny story; when they gave us our first smartphone, my companion messed it up within 5 minutes so we had to go to the mission office after the meeting to set up another one.

Wednesday: From Tuesday night to Wednesday night we had intercambios with the AP's in a kind of ghetto part of Madrid, which was exciting. I went with Elder Barrales from Chile, and we had a cool day. It was the first time we went contacting and instead of asking for people's phone number, we added them on Facebook or Whatsapp (pretty much everyone uses Whatsapp to talk here, idk how popular it is in the US right now). It helps a lot.

Wednesday night: We got back to Valladolid and pretty much right when we got back to our piso, Elder Allan called and said "I hope you're hungry" and hung up. For the past couple weeks he and his companion have been joking with us, telling us they would order us a pizza one night. So I'm like ok, that's fine, but the pizza gets here and it cost 17,50 euros, which is about 20 dollars. It wasn't even a good pizza; it had corn on it. Elder Waters and I worked fast and used google maps on our fancy new smartphone to order them the same pizza.

Thursday: This story requires a bit of backtracking. We originally were planning on having a baptism on Thursday morning, but on Tues, Jorge called us and said that he had gotten in a car accident so he wanted to push the baptism off. Well, on Thursday morning, his girlfriend's family (a Spanish member family) called us and said that they had to have the baptism that day before 4:00 because it was the only day they could all be there, because the next week his girlfriend was leaving to study in Madrid. That was about 9am. Within 4 hours we got him a baptismal interview, used whatsapp to invite members and plan a baptismal service, and got him baptized. It was a crazy morning, but the Lord definitely blessed us so that everything worked out, and that it could be a special experience for Jorge.

Friday and Saturday were pretty normal. We had a lot of lessons, English class, played sports on Saturday morning, and worked on cleaning up our facebook accounts and friending as many people that we knew here as we could. Honestly, this week has been one of the busiest of my mission.

Sunday: We went to Leon for district conference. I liked it because I was at the last one in May, while I was in Salamanca. I also got to see a bunch of members from Salamanca who went as well, which I loved. It brought back a lot of good memories. The speakers were good too. President Pack was there and he talked a bit about the new technology, and talked about how the members can get involved.

This next week is looking to be a bit more tranquilo than the last one, which will be nice. We  just have zone conference, so wish us luck! Have a great week!
Love,
Elder Dobbs
