Hey everyone!
News this week: It snowed two more times! So now, after my 4th time of seeing snow on the mission, it's finally starting to excite me less than the 1st time. I still think it's pretty cool though. Luckily it wasn't snowing when we had to be outside working.
More news: The branch presidency changed here, which won't mean much to anyone who's not here, but for us it'll be interesting to see what kinds of things are different. Tiago, my music-loving buddy, was released, and now the president is Harold, the El Salvadorian father here.
Busy news: It's been quite a different first week for our district of missionaries here. Now that Elder Santiago and I are the only two missionaries in Salamanca, we have a lot more appointments we have to make, and we're able to keep ourselves pretty busy with that, still finding time to talk to people on the street and knock doors every once in a while.
Sad news: The two new missionaries in Zamora have had quite a different first week of the transfer; in their new apartment, they were without power until Friday, and they're supposed to get their hot water fixed today. On Saturday, they asked if they could come down, stay the night and use our shower in the morning, since they had to come to church here anyway.
Miraculous news: Ok now here's the spiritual part of the email. There's a scripture in 2 Nephi 25:23 that talks about the grace of God. It says something like "after all we can do, it is by the grace of God that we are saved." Our mission president has been applying this to missionary work, emphasizing that we see miracles after doing all we can do. We saw this in this last week. Because the branch presidency changed yesterday, all the leaders knew that leaders from the district (a group of branches in the church) were going to come, so they wanted to have as many people at church as possible to show that we really need a new place to meet. So us, as missionaries, invited everyone we knew to church. We made a ton of calls on Friday and Saturday and by Saturday night we weren't going to have too many, about 2. But when we got to church on Sunday, we had 4 investigators there, and 2 less active members who had said they wouldn't be able to come. It was the first time I had seen either of them at church since I've been here. It was one of the best surprises ever.
Things are going super well over here, and I'm loving it. I hope you all have an awesome week!
Love,
Elder Dobbs
