Hey everyone!
This week was really cool. Last Tuesday, in the middle of our p-day, we got to skype into the Oviedo district meeting, to try and show support to all the districts in our zone. If you don't know why that's significant, it's because that's where Elder Allan is serving! Castaic was well represented that day. This week, he and his companion Elder Davalos are coming down to Valladolid for exchanges! It's going to be a fun day. He's probably going to read this email, so I won't give any spoilers.
There is a drink that is superior to many other drinks, called Morir Sonando. It's from the Dominican republic. It's basically a mix between milk and either squeezed oranges or squeezed lemons. Last week, when we played basketball with the Dominicans, I got a chance to talk to a guy from Colombia, John, who comes to watch while his wife and daughters are at the park right by the basketball court. I've talked to him before, and he said missionaries have visited him before. This last week, we talked to his wife, who's Dominican, and we told her that we've tried Morir Sonando before, and that it was delicious, and she basically invited us over so she could make us some. We passed by the next day, and talked to them, and it went really well. They have 4 little girls, who are super cute and funny. We're really excited to go back and teach them more.
Miracle of the week: So a couple weeks ago, we called one of our investigators, Jorge, to set up something with him, but he told us he didn't want to keep meeting with us. We were sad, but we went on with life. His girlfriend is a member, and at church the next Sunday she said he might call us, because he's doing some "soul searching" or something, but we doubted it. Anyway, this last week, Jorge called us and asked when we could meet. We were surprised, but we arranged an appointment for last Saturday. We met, and he told us that since we had last talked, he had given up coffee and smoking, and he wanted to continue changing his life and get baptized. We were pumped. He was noticeably changed, too. He was laughing and joking around, while before when we met with him he was quiet and it was a little awkward to teach him.
Yesterday our two converts were confirmed at church! For Olifer, our branch president did the confirmation, and our ward mission leader confirmed Kennis. We helped both of them do it, and it was such a great experience to be able to be a part of it. I love hearing the blessings that are promised to converts when they receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. It's amazing to see how much people change as they accept the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
Speaking of Jesus Christ, for our p-day today we went to Palencia, a city in our area, where they have a giant statue of Christ on a hill right outside the city. After Rio de Janeiro, it's the biggest in the world. We hiked to the top, where there was a cool view of the city.
I hope you all have a swell week!
-Elder Dobbs
