Happy Thanksgiving this week! Even though the holiday is relatively unknown here in Spain, on Thursday we will be celebrating it a bit with a group of missionaries. More on that next week. This week was my first week with my new companion, Elder McDade. He's from Ceres, CA, and he's been out on the mission for a little over a year now. He's a pretty good companion so far, he's been working hard and we get along well so I'm grateful for that. As a part of having a new companion, it's been an interesting week since he only just got here. He's still getting to know Guadalajara and I need to introduce him to just about everyone we know here, but it's getting better. We haven't gotten lost and we haven't lost any friends here so it's all going well.
We had a cool experience yesterday, but it starts before that. This week we've been talking to a lot of people in the street, trying to find people interested in hearing about the gospel, and there have been plenty of people who have given us their numbers and accepted copies of the Book of Mormon but actually getting back in contact with them is hard. Only about half of them answer their phones and half of those people are able to set up a time to meet with us, and of all the new people that we set something up with, none of them actually showed up. We have other people that we've been teaching, and we were able to play soccer again on Saturday which was really fun, but I was starting to get a little discouraged because it seemed like all the work we were doing wasn't going anywhere. But then on Sunday, we had a member who we don't talk to very much invite us over, and there he introduced us to a friend of his who is renting a room in his apartment. His friend had talked to missionaries in the past, and when we were there he was talking to us and he was interested in talking about religion and turning over a new page in his life. We gave him a Book of Mormon and he promised he'd read it, and we set up another lesson with him. It was a really great feeling to see that because we had been working hard to find people, the Lord led us to this man. Even though it didn't come directly from the work we were doing, we were blessed for our devotion to try and do our best. The Lord is always mindful of us.
I hope you all have a great week, and I love you all. Happy Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
-Elder Dobbs
