Hello all!
Apparently spring is just beginning. But you know those scenes in the movies where the kids wake up and look outside and see snow on the ground like it's Christmas? That happened to me yesterday. It's really fun until you remember that you have to go outside later, and the very thought makes you want to go put on 3 jackets, a scarf, beanie, and 2 gloves on.
Despite the very cold weather, it's been a great week. Last Wednesday we had zone conference, with Elder Gary B Sabin, from the Europe area presidency of the church. It was really good. One thing he talked about was that we really need to understand our identity as children of God. If we understand that, and our purpose here on Earth, then everything makes sense and we realize our true worth and potential, and as missionaries we can help other people to understand the same.
Last Saturday we had a ward activity about missionaries! Basically how it went was we started off singing himno #161, "Llamados a servir" (Called to Serve), and then we gave time to the returned missionaries to share short experiences from their mission. They stood up and talked, one by one, about things that they had learned from certain experiences. It was really good, and there were some really spiritual experiences that were shared. A lot of the members here served in Spain itself, but others served in Mexico, Bolivia, Ecuador, France, Finland, England, and of course the good old USA. After that, we had food set up for people to eat, along with tables of mission pictures that some of the members had brought, and a table to write letters to missionaries currently serving from the ward.
One quick story from this week: yesterday we had a lesson set up in a town called Galapagar with a less active family that we were going to meet with the first time. On the bus ride to the town, they texted us saying that they couldn't meet anymore. As good missionaries, we had backup plans to work in the town and try and pass by some other members, but it was very cold and not a ton of people were on the street, and I had to go to the bathroom, so it was rough. As we were standing there deciding which way to go, I saw a woman start crossing the street towards us and I felt like I should talk to her, so I did. And the first thing that came to my head to say to her was to ask if she knew where a nearby bathroom was. She said there wasn't a public one nearby, but we could come use the one in her house.
Next thing we know, we're in her house, and while I'm in the bathroom, Elder Jones met the rest of her family. Her name was Sonia, from Colombia, and she's married to a man from Bulgaria, and they have two little kids. They invited us to sit down and have a cup of coffee, which we kindly declined, so they gave us water instead. We started talking to them, and we were able to talk about the Restoration of the church, and we gave them a Book of Mormon and are planning on going back later this week. It was an awesome way that the Lord helped us find someone by putting us in the right place at the right time.
I hope you all have a wonderful week! Look out for the church's Easter video for this year, which comes out this weekend.
Love,
Elder Dobbs
