Happy first day of May, everyone!
Transfers have come around again, and the big news is that I am staying in Salamanca for six more weeks, which I'm very happy about. I've also been called as district leader for the missionaries here in Salamanca and Zamora. I'm a little nervous, but it'll be a good opportunity for me to grow and to serve even more.
A couple cool things that happened this week:
Yesterday we went to visit some members who live in a town outside of Salamanca called Arapiles. It was an old-fashioned little town, and the members that live there are an older couple with their 20 year old son, Massimo, who is working to save money for a mission. The father is an American Vietnam war veteran, and the mother is Spanish, and she makes some very good food. They were telling us about how apparently right outside their town was a battlefield from back when Napoleon was trying to conquer Europe. On the way back in the car they were showing us exactly where it had happened, which was super cool.
I tried a new food this week called corazon de vaca, and for those of you who can at least understand that phrase in Spanish will know exactly what it is. After church on Sunday, a family from Honduras invited us and a bunch of members over and it was actually not bad. I tried to focus my thoughts on something else besides what exactly I was eating and when I did that, it was basically like eating normal beef that tasted really good.
This week our convert from a couple weeks ago, David, received the Aaronic priesthood! We're still working on our convert Felipe, from a couple months ago, but he's still nervous about having a responsibility in the church after only having been a member for a short time. Anyway, it was a cool experience because the branch president had me ordain David after church. It's great to see him progressing in the church. He's always been really shy, but coming to church has made him a lot more social, and he's getting more and more interested in the different details of the church, which is awesome. He loves reading and after we helped him download the Gospel Library app he's been looking at a bunch of stuff on there. He asked us what an investigator was and then his aunt, who was there, told him that he used to be an investigator and he was a little confused at that but we explained it to him. I love seeing how the gospel works so well in our lives and in the lives in others in making us happy and helping us with everything. I hope you all have a great week!
Love,
Elder Dobbs
Pictures: we toured the big famous cathedral of Salamanca and got some cool pictures from inside and of views from the bell tower. unfortunately I forgot my camera so I had to use my tablet
