Hello all!
It's been another good, busy week here in the beautiful city of Salamanca. A little bit of rain, but it could be a lot worse.
We did a few cool things this week. We celebrated 2 birthdays, one of a member named Duque (his first name is Carlos but everyone calls him by just his last name or Hermano Duque). He's a member, and he's really funny and friendly to everyone. He turned fifty-something years old. To celebrate, some other members had a surprise party at the branch president, Tiago's, house. He planned it with the Brazilian family who lives with him. They had us come over early and make pancakes for them, because apparently the missionaries here had done that before. It was really fun. Then later in the week, we celebrated Igor's 18th birthday. Igor is a part of the family who lives with Tiago. He lives there with his aunt and uncle, Natalia and Alex. Natalia did most of the planning for the two parties. They invited the 4 of us missionaries for both. Alex was in charge of getting the cake for Igor, and he and one of Igor's friends went and got a cake that was pink and decorated with one of the characters from the movie "Trolls" that came out recently (I think). It was super funny.
We also found another miracle this week! The week before, we talked to a Peruvian guy, Carlos, who moved here recently with his family. This last week we visited him, and we met his wife and their kids, and we've taught them twice. They come from a small town in Peru, and they are super interested. Right now it's hard for them because they're still adjusting to life here, but they've been praying a lot and reading the Book of Mormon for comfort. It's super cool teaching them.
Today for our preparation day we went looking around the old part of the city. We found the famous University Fachada, which is this famous wall right outside the door to the university. The university is almost 800 years old, it's one of the oldest universities in the world. The legend is that there's a frog hidden somewhere on it, and if you find it, it's supposed to be lucky. I found it by looking at a tourist guide so I'm expecting to see the results of my luck this week.
I hope you all have an awesome week!
Love,
Elder Dobbs
